Obsidian Portal

The lovely folks from Obsidian Portal have been in touch, asking if we’d like to work together to integrate Masterplan with the OP website. This sounds like a fun idea, but there’s a catch.

How do we do this? What points of integration would you like to see? How do you use Obsidian Portal, and how might Masterplan work with it? How might OP enhance Masterplan, or vice versa?

Give us your ideas and comments.

I could see integration with the characters tab, so that PCs and NPCs entered in MasterPlan can be exported to a given OP campaign.

I really see little use to masterplan in OP. What matt is good and perhaps allowing masterplan to directly upload maps made in mp to op.

I reckon both the PC (and NPC) integration would be good. I would add, it would be nice if either MP could export to OP code that would display as cards for monsters and NPCs. Sort of a good bridge for putting my custom monsters in Adventure tools and PCs in Character Builder into OP.

    On to the impractical suggestion:

It would be interesting, though probably a lot more difficult, to make some sort of MP plug-in for OP that would allow for some of the encounter running capabilites of MP to be run inside OP. (init. tracking, dice rolling, player views, etc.)

This could simply be something short of an online virtual tabletop. Combined with any old VoIP software available elsewhere (Skype, etc.) all I’d need to run a session would be the ability to send live map images, drawings, handouts, etc to players and maybe a rudimentary way for them to move their token on the screen. No need for automatic game mechanics. It’d make it much easier to use than most of the proprietary and open source VTs out there, because, face it, most of them have way more bells and whistles than you need (and none of them can auto-dial pizza delivery…the most important game mechanic of all!).

I think making links between the Encylopedia and Jotter in MP and the Wiki functions of OP would be a great boon. That way you could write once (from either OP or MP) and then sync them up. Save time on entry and it would provide OP offline content creation capability.

Think of OP being the public interface of your campaign and MP being that and all the DM notes as well. I will have to look at my dormant OP account and see if there are some other useful synergies.

    Thanks.

I would like to see this capability in the both programs.

It would be interesting to know if Obsidian Portal expose any APIs for this kind of integration. If they did, that would make it easier to determine what kind of integrations would be easily possible.

As the poster above me says, a useful place to start would be the campaign Wiki and maps features.

Well. I use OP on OSX. Cough cough.

  • mrfb Says:

But, if you want to go hardcore OP integration, it would be nice to see a sync feature. OP just integrated offline backups, I think, so maybe if I could edit my wiki offline and then sync all the changes…

Integration between plot points and specific wiki pages would be awesome. That would allow a nice balance of the combat-driving ability of MP and the world detail that can be built with OP. It would be useful to have a session log feature that would end up in OP’s blog as well.

Plot point integration with the wiki pages would be a godsend, and you could allow us to link encyclopedia entries to pages as well.

Is this a program that could be used for d20 games, i.e. Labyrinth Lord?

    Thanks,

Has any progress been made with Obsidian Portal integration?

I’d really just like to be able to easily keep a wiki up to date with information from my masterplan encyclopedia!

  • Johnny Says:

Ditto on the progress question. We’ve got a great group here that uses masterplan and want to take things online with Obsidian Portal. A one click “sync” would be amazing.
